Hobe Sound Kids Program

Hobe Sound Kids Medical Program started as a pilot program graciously underwritten by Clem and Linda McGillicuddy. A needs assessment found that nearly 50% of children in select Hobe Sound neighborhoods did not have health insurance and typically received medical care in emergency rooms. Hobe Sound Kids is an innovative partnership with Cleveland Clinic Martin Health that serves children from low income families who lack access to pediatric care. These families visit pediatricians in a medical office and never receive a bill for treatment or medications. In the addition the Chest has partnered with the Ride United Program to transport these young patients to and from their medical appointments by Uber or Lyft. To cover costs, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation established the Hobe Sound Kids Medical Program fund, which we hope will serve an increasing number of children. Due to the pilot’s success Cleveland Clinic Martin Health is duplicating this program with other programs.

Computer Literacy Classes

Families in our mobile home parks have access to computer literacy classes through a generous grant from Martin County. These classes teach basic computer skills over an 8 week session. Students learn how to establish and send email, pay bills online, look for educational and community resources in addition to learning about internet safety.

We are now in our third session of classes. Over the past two session we have received great feedback! One participant mentioned, “her husband was so excited to see the newly learned computer skills that he has asked her to help with the bookkeeping for his small landscaping business.”

Another parent mentioned that they were “able to login to check their child’s grades” and how good it felt to be able to do this.

We are so excited to be able to help close the digital divide for families in Hobe Sound through programs like this.
